Howley's Restaurant at 4700 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405, United States - Explore menu, customer reviews & photos before your visit.
Howley’s Restaurant at 4700 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405 is more than just a diner—it’s a local landmark that bridges Mid-century charm with modern comfort. Established in the 1950s by Patrick Howley, this vintage-style eatery has been lovingly preserved and revitalized. In 2004, the Subculture Group took the reins and restored original terrazzo floors, tin ceilings, and retro flair while updating the kitchen and menu to reflect fresh, local ingredients. The slogan “Cooked in sight, must be right” captures their commitment to honest, open-kitchen cooking.
Walking through the door feels like stepping into a classic American diner—but with a twist. Diners, counters, quirky artwork, and memorabilia line the walls. The aesthetic is a fun mash-up of nostalgic and millennial quirks: low-brow art displays, murals, vintage light fixtures, and eclectic pieces for sale. The layout includes booths, counter seating, and a covered outdoor patio where leashed dogs are welcome. (Scroll down for full menu, services, and customer reviews.)
When it comes to food, Howley’s doesn’t try to overdo it—yet a few signature items consistently draw raves. The Crab Hash Eggs Benedict (a take on benedict over home-style potatoes with lump crab) is a favorite. The Mahi Mahi Sandwich, Reuben, Turkey Pot Pie, and Fried Chicken also earn frequent mentions on Yelp. Their Coconut Cake and homemade desserts round out meals with sweet notes. Many guests also praise their Corned Beef Hash & Eggs or the classic Country Fried Steak for hearty comfort.
Visiting, you’ll sense the energy of a spot that serves all day—breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and late night. The kitchen doesn’t rely on microwaves; everything is cooked in plain view, embodying that “must be right” promise. Service tends to be casual and warm—servers check in often, refilling coffee or chatting as you enjoy the space. Locals say it’s a place you can stop by at 1 a.m. for a shake, or arrive at 7 a.m. for breakfast, and feel equally at home.
Reviewers often cite the consistent quality, friendly staff, and fun atmosphere. On TripAdvisor, Howley’s holds around a 4.1/5 average. Some guests call it a “comfort stop that should not be missed,” praising dishes like matzo ball soup, turkey dinner, roast beef with au jus, and brisket. Others note occasional inconsistency, but point out that management invites feedback and aims to make things right.
As someone who’s visited on a lazy Sunday morning, I remember sitting by the window with sunlight on the vinyl booths, coffee in a generous mug, and overhearing neighbors chatting about their week. Watching the cooks flip pancakes and plate eggs beside me felt warm and genuine—no fuss, just good food. Over time I tried the crab hash, the pot pie, and even the fried chicken. Each time, I’d see the same faces working the floor or behind the line, which gave a comforting sense of family and continuity.

The ambiance is 1950's diner. This place opened in 1950 and it's still serving food, so it must be good. That's what I thought before we went in. I had an Arnold Palmer to drink... the tastiest AP ever. Then a cup of chicken matzoh ball soup... to die for. Including the fresh horseradish. Finally, a grill cheese sandwich with tomato and bacon on Texas toast. I can still taste it in my dreams. Took a chance on this place and hit the taste jackpot!!
Been there since the 50s diner fare, big good sandwiches the Chili got too have. Specialty are Real Southern Fried Chicken, I have never ordered Meatloaf in a restaurant Undoubtedly. The best you ever had Homemade Mashed Potatoes greens. Wow the Fried Chicken is a generous serving with honey and your choice of vegetables. Milkshake is really good cakes are all homemade and again win. Whenever I go East I often eat at Howley's. Very beatnik clean and an icon. If you haven't tried it please do. Great food
Love the vibe - old time diner with murals and vibrant paintings. Very clean too. The servers seemed to work as a team and kept our teas filled upon request. The crabcakes, rueben, and fries were all big hits. The sides, spinach and mac & cheese were large portions. The spinach was excellent. I had the TV dinner. It was a fun idea. I loved the little brownie. The protein was a chicken cutlet with BBQ sauce. I liked the sauce, but the chicken was chewy. Note: this place is just 10 minutes from PBI.
Food is great here. Was recently ordering on Uber eats and got the order wrong , Taylor who works there called me and told me I ordered it wrong and she would correct it on her end instead of making and sending an order that didn't make any sense . Great customer service and a great employee.
This Diner has been around forever and has some good bones. Inside has been updated and expanded with nice decor and artwork. This place has lots of character and charm. All day breakfast! I came for lunch with coworkers. Everyone enjoyed their meal and service. The TV Dinner was a hit. It does vary day by day with no substitutions. Plenty of parking in the back. Come for lunch, come on the weekend and have a late breakfast. Definitely a place you will come back to for multiple occasions!
